Amy Winston Martens, 60, of Chicago, died Jan. 27, 2011, from complications of pneumonia. Born May 9, 1950, Amy grew up in Winnetka and attended New Trier West High School. She became a quadriplegic in 1990. She met each day with courage and grace, enjoying reading, television, music, animals, and visits with her family and friends. Amy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Martens; and her parents, Elizabeth Buchen Winston and Albert F. Winston. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret (Marnie) Winston Rodgers of Charlotte, NC, and Elizabeth (Buff) Winston of Glenview, IL; Michael's parents, Vivi and Hugo Martens of Wilmette, IL; her aunt, Wendy Buchen of San Rafael, CA; her caregivers, Jean Apilan and Maria Zielinska; other relatives and friends.
