In Memory
Allan Johnson
I am sad to announce the death of Allan (AJ, Gunner) Johnson, who passed away on February 21, 2025. According to Patti, AJ's wife, he had many health issues over the years; his ultimate undoing was respiratory failure. A service will be held in California: Memorial Mass, Friday, March 21, 2025, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.

Allan and I were in the same advisory (Mr. Lill). He was a smart and kind person with a great sense of humor and a love of all sports. Our advisory had difficulty generating any degree of enthusiasm when it came to participating in intramural sports. One year, Allan (who was every bit of 5' 6") was bound and determined to put a basketball team on the court. As it happened, only Allan and 1 other person showed up to represent our advisory. The two of them took on a full team from another advisory and got blown out to the tune of something like 65 - 2. Our advisory's 2 points were the byproduct of Allan's desperation, half-court heave to end the first half....thus earning him the nickname of "Gunner". A life well lived, Gunner!

Allen was a quiet and nice guy always smiling..I remeber him from advisory first period with Mr. Lill a math teacher who was an asset to the school; a great advisor.

R I P, dear Gunner. No doubt he's entertaining the basketball fans in heaven with a steady stream of three-pointers. We (he much more than I) were diehard fans of the Loyola Ramblers from the 1960s on. Around fifteen years ago he sent me a CD of the Chicago radio broadcast of Loyola's 1963 NCAA championship game. He thoughtfully followed that with a tape of Red Rush's call of a Loyola-Marquette game in which Jim "Ajax" Tillman (yes, the real Ajax and source of my nickname) scored forty-some points. Also around fifteen years ago, Gunner flew from his California home to the Midwest to attend several Todd Rundgren concerts. Yes, Gunner again a true fanatic. I met him in Indianapolis for the concert there and we had a chance to catch up on decades of life. Great memories of a fun-loving caring guy. Prayers and hugs to Patti and family.

So very sorry to have heard of the loss of AJ, or as I knew him Gunner. I remember first meeting him in homeroom Gunner, and being close through out days a NTW. I have many fond memories of him, and I’m glad that we were able to reconnect in later life. My condolences go out to Patti and his family.
