In Memory

Laura Lohne

Written by Amy Miller-Laura Miller Lohne's sister:

“On Sunday, my sister Lo joined her husband Raymond Lohne, our parents, brother Ken and all the others that went before us. My heart hurts yet I’m so grateful that she is relieved of her pain and suffering.

She contracted polio at 10 months just before the vaccination came out. Surgeries throughout her life that most of us would have struggled to endure kept her able bodied and active until a few years ago. She’s spent the majority of her life helping folks with addictions to drugs and alcohol at Gateway Foundation which helped her get clean in the 1970’s. My parents believed Lo was trying to relieve herself of all the pain she lived with and were always behind her 100% with their unconditional love and support. During her 30+ years at Gateway she created the Women’s and Young Adult programs knowing treatment for them needed to be separate from the Men’s program. Upon retirement from serving others, she was made an honorary member of  IAODAPCA (Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association). I know there are hundreds of folks alive today because of her work.

At 4’11 - if that, she was a mighty and loving force. She made our family so proud. As a sister, she meant the world to me. She had a wicked sense of humor and used it often. We loved having sleepovers as adults and continued to laughed until we wet our pants. She loved her family fiercely.

I will miss her and the bond we had.

She is survived by her son, Welton L Wright Jr., his wife Susie Peters Wright,   grand children Natalia & Marcus Wright, many nephews, nieces, and greats as well as life long friends.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Lo. We were good friends in high school, and I was always sorry I lost contact with her. My heart goes out to her family and friends.Chuck Rossetti
